This is all my opinion, nobody has to agree. So dixon supplied the start up capital, just kept making frames waiting for the big payoff, watched yvonne recycle sales into marketing b/c he 'just wanted to find out if advertising worked'. you dont get paid? would you be making anything else until you did get paid? Lets say youre a manufacturer, making frames for someone, and bill for services. after every run of frames? was he manufacturing while someone else was responsible for sales, b/c it was his 'marketing experiment'? or was he billing yvonne b/c it was a partnership? i mean, which is it? he told yvonne to 'run w/ it', and makes it seem like it was okay when he says 'When she sold frames, she took all that money and put it into advertising.', b/c he 'just wanted to find out if advertising worked.'Īt the start he says 'i don't believe in advertising', but by the end it becomes 'i just wanted to see if advertising worked.' wuts up w/ that?Īnd on the other hand, he would send an invoice for manufacturing cost and never get paid for it? wut.like. So on one hand, dixon did everything, and no one spent a dime but him. he came up w/ the name, put out the money to start it, he gave everything to keep it going, and the other people involved are incidental.Īccording to him he 'never' received a return- from his manufacturing, to when the company changed hands. all of the sudden, free agent is in motion and dixon is responsible for all of it.
I think its strange that there is no mention(in the interview) of who came up w/ the frame design, or where the idea came from. dixon would have you believe that he started free agent up to 'see if promoting frames w/out commercial advertising would work' on a whim, not that he saw an opportunity to make money manufacturing for someone else. its just a coincidence they were around to see him come up w/ the idea.Īs everybody knows, manufacturing is not an easy business and takes money before it makes money. and that the shoups had very little, if anything to do w/ it. the tone is that dixon is responsible for free agent, a company that he started w/ his own money and ideas.
No flames andy, just about the humbleness b/c after all, he made a lot of stuff for everyone. on the contrary, i was thinking of contrived.
